This is the first Christmas without my mom and it has been a bit difficult. My mom loved to celebrate Christmas; she would go all out on decorations and festivities. She also made the best menudo I’ve ever tasted.
Initially, I wanted to rush through the holidays as quickly as I could without celebrating or giving them too much thought. However, instead, I decided to visit my grandmother in El Paso, TX to spend Christmas with her. This too has been a difficult time for my grandmother and I couldn’t imagine a more proper way to spend Christmas than with her.
My mom, for the most part, raised me as a single parent and my grandmother played a huge role in my upbringing. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it hadn’t been for my grandmother.
